Tooth extraction is something that many people want to avoid, but in some cases, tooth extraction is the recommended dental procedure that is best for your teeth, gums, and overall health. In addition to tooth extraction related to decayed teeth, you may need a wisdom tooth extraction if one or more of your wisdom teeth is impacted or will otherwise present a health risk for your mouth.
In either case, most insurance will cover tooth extraction cost from our practice; but if you do not have insurance or if your insurance will not fully cover the tooth extraction, we will discuss your financial options with you before any procedure.

Reasons Why Teeth May be Extracted
There are many reasons why tooth extraction may be necessary.
The most common reason for tooth extraction is advanced tooth decay and advanced gum disease. In some cases, your tooth may be so damaged or decayed that other methods of dental treatment such as fillings or even root canals will not be enough to save your tooth. Extraction is recommended in these cases so that there is no longer active tooth decay inside your mouth, as this can spread and cause further complications. The same holds true for advanced gum disease; if the gum disease around the tooth is so advanced that your tooth becomes lose, and then it must be extracted and if possible replaced with an implant.
Another reason for tooth extraction is to prepare for dentures. If you are going to have partial or full dentures made for your mouth, then tooth extraction will be necessary in order to facilitate this process.
Another reason why teeth may need to be extracted will surprise you. In some cases, your orthodontist may suggest tooth extraction in cases where your mouth is too crowded and certain teeth need to be removed in order to improve the eventual results of appliances such as braces.
Tooth Extraction
Before your tooth is extracted, your dentist will perform an examination in order to find out the extent of tooth decay or any other issues which can affect the procedure.
During the extraction appointment, you will first be numbed; this is done in the area around the damaged tooth, so that you will not feel pain during the extraction process. The next step will depend on how much of your tooth structure exists. If the crown of your tooth is still visible above the gum line, then a simple extraction can be performed. If your tooth is impacted or otherwise broken off at the gum line, then surgical removal will be necessary. In both cases, there are options for sedation that can be used to help you through the procedure.
